Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) – Perennial
A hardy, medium-height clover producing pink-purple blossoms rich in nectar. One of the most reliable pollinator plants, providing strong mid-season forage and returning year after year.
Sowing tips:
- Depth: very shallow (surface to 5 mm max; lightly press in)
- Germination: 7–14 days
- Spacing: can be sown dense; thinning optional
Coverage (dense sowing): ~20–30 sq ft per 20 g
Growing notes:
- Height: typically 1–2 ft
- Sun: full sun to partial shade
- Water: moderate; tolerates some drought once established
- Soil: adaptable; performs well in average to slightly poor soils
Helpful info:
- Strong nectar producer, especially mid-summer
- Fixes nitrogen, improving soil fertility
- Can persist for multiple years but may thin over time
- Works well mixed with other pollinator species
- Good balance of height for most flowerbeds
General Sowing (Urban / Flowerbeds)
- Timing: Spring or early fall
- Prep: Loosen topsoil (2–5 cm), remove weeds
- Seed: Broadcast evenly and lightly press into soil
- Water: Keep soil moist until established
Tip: Avoid burying too deep—light contact with soil is enough for good germination.
