Ladino Clover (Trifolium repens var. giganteum) – Perennial
A larger, more vigorous type of white clover with bigger leaves and higher flower production than standard Dutch white. Excellent nectar source and forms a lush, low-growing cover that persists for years.
Sowing tips:
- Depth: surface to 3 mm max (lightly press in, do not bury)
- Germination: 7–14 days
- Spacing: sow dense for full coverage
Coverage (dense sowing): ~25–35 sq ft per 20 g
Growing notes:
- Height: typically 6–12 inches (taller than Dutch white)
- Sun: full sun to partial shade
- Water: moderate; more moisture-responsive than Dutch clover
- Soil: adaptable; performs best in fertile, well-drained soil
Helpful info:
- Produces more biomass and flowers than standard white clover
- Strong, consistent nectar source for bees
- Spreads to form a thick ground cover over time
- Fixes nitrogen, improving surrounding soil
- Less tolerant of heavy foot traffic than Dutch white
General Sowing (Urban / Flowerbeds)
- Timing: Spring or early fall
- Prep: Loosen topsoil (2–5 cm), remove weeds
- Seed: Broadcast evenly and press into soil
- Water: Keep soil moist until established
Tip: Keep seed near the surface—burying too deep will reduce germination.
